06/01/2014: OnCall ALS Ambulance (0300-2200)/ Fire Calls

Picked up a few hours tomorrow morning before my two shifts on Sunday, hoping for a slow night and a busy day!

Well, it was a very busy night with a large structure fire. House was hit by lightning and reported by passerby. The house wasn't occupied at the time of fire, and four dogs were rescued by first arriving police officers:

We also ran a false trip fire alarm at a local Clinic a half-hour after we cleared the fire at 0400 and a false trip fire alarm at a local business at 0600.

We then ran a medical minutes after that fire alarm:
0630 Medical Alarm: Call back reports elderly female with Chest Pain, similar to pain before when they had fluid buildup. Patient transported Code 2, 12 Lead EKG, Vitals, and IV.

At about 1100 we were dispatched to a gas leak, possible overnight lightning strike. Duty Officer arrived with gas company and told units to standby at station. Nearby tree was struck and transferred into the gas main in house.

05/31/2014: Private ALS Fire Standby (0730-1230)

Did a standby for a local fire department today at their training burn. Weather was rainy, but still always fun and more importantly everyone stayed safe and there were no incidents.

05/30/2014 OnCall ALS Ambulance (1800-0600):

I'm on the secondary OnCall ALS Ambulance tonight. As of right now the primary truck is out, it might be a busy evening hopefully! Below is a picture of one of our rigs and a Paramedic Fly Car.

Update: Ran one call as the second truck and bumped up to the primary truck at 2100 until 0600 and got two more:

Respiratory Distress: Elderly Male, DNR/DNI, severe respiratory distress, fluid in lungs, per family request transport to hospital. Transported Code 3, treated with CPAP, monitored with EKG, Capnography, and vitals, and started an IV.

Possible CVA/Stroke: Adult male, felt a little weak, no pain, negative Cincinnati Test. Possible dehydration. Transported Code 2, 12 Lead EKG, vitals, and IV with fluid.

Difficulty Breathing: Adult Male, COPD, increased distress, low 02 Sat (70). Transported Code 2, Oxygen Non-Rebreather, Capnography, vitals, and IV.

05/30/2014 Private ALS Ambulance (1100-1700):

Today, we ran no calls on my shift. All we did was move rigs to and from the mechanic shop, run a few errands, and did some online training. Tomorrow I'll (hopefully) be at a fire training burn standby and get some neat pictures.
